Ep. 1: Passion and Experience
Bobby Raitt
Hi, my name is Bobby Raitt. Welcome to the First Raitt Law Podcast. My partner, Tom James, and I are your co-hosts, and we’re going to take you through what we hope will be a helpful tutorial.
In other words, we’ll explain what you should do if you ever find yourself in the unfortunate situation of being injured due to the negligence of another person, company, or entity.
Today, we want to tell you a little bit about ourselves—where we’ve been, what we’ve experienced—so you feel comfortable calling or reaching out to us if you ever need help.
I’ve been in this industry for going on 34 years. I was with another law firm for 29 years before leaving in 2021 to form Raitt Law. Together, Tom and I handle every case ourselves.
We don’t have thousands of cases—or even hundreds. We take only the number of cases we can handle properly so that every client gets our full attention. We know every file. We know every person individually.
That personal touch has always been important to both of us, especially after seeing the opposite—too many files, too many clients, and not enough attention. That’s how clients get lost.
At Raitt Law, you get two very experienced attorneys who will be there for you every step of the way—from start to finish.
In my 34 years, I’ve been fortunate to be involved in the Trial Lawyers Organization, a statewide group of 1,000 to 1,800 attorneys. I served as president of that organization in 2007–2008 and as chairman of the Negligence Section of the State Bar.
That section includes both plaintiff attorneys like Tom and me, as well as defense attorneys representing insurance companies and businesses. We meet regularly, sit on boards together, and learn from each other’s perspectives. It’s a unique experience that’s made us better lawyers.
I’ve also served on various boards, spoken in Lansing on insurance issues, and stayed deeply involved in the legal community. But what’s equally important is the work itself—trying cases, litigating, and successfully settling them for individuals injured through no fault of their own.
Together, Tom and I bring over 50 years of combined experience. We know how to do the work, and we know how to do it right.
We keep our caseload small so we can give each case the personal attention it deserves. If we can’t handle it properly, we’re not doing you a service.
Now, I’d like to introduce my partner and co-host, Tom James. Tom has been with Raitt Law since this past January. I worked with him for 15 years at our previous firm, and he’s excellent—your go-to guy at Raitt Law for all things legal.
Tom, tell us a little about yourself.
Tom James
Nice to meet everybody!
A quick intro about myself: I didn’t go to law school right out of college like many people do. I tried being an accountant for a while, then worked in sales. I didn’t attend law school until my 30s—but once I did, I found my calling.
I love what I do because I get to help people. Every day, I help families and individuals affected by someone else’s negligence.
We use the term “negligence” in the law, but what it really means is simple: someone else hurt me; it’s their fault; I’m harmed—so what can I do about it?
That’s where I come in. I get to do something about it for families, and it’s a big deal—for them and for me.
I’ve been practicing for 20 years, coming up on 21. Over that time, I’ve had great successes—trials, jury verdicts, and settlements.
We’ve won significant jury verdicts, including $14 million for a young man who suffered a brain injury that left him unable to work. He has a wife and two beautiful kids, and we were able to secure the compensation his family deserved.
There have been many other cases like that—seven-figure, even eight-figure verdicts. Not every case goes to trial, of course. Many end in successful settlements, which is always our first goal. The jury is a last resort.
I’m very happy to have joined Bobby here at Raitt Law. We’re ready to make a difference for everyone who needs us.

Now, I want to share why I believe this podcast is unique.
You’ve heard from our introductions that Tom and I have decades of experience and a strong record of success. But what truly sets us apart is our dedication to client relationships and our deep understanding of what it takes to represent people the right way.
That’s why we believe this podcast—the First Raitt Law Podcast—will be so valuable for listeners.
Tom is going to share what you can expect from future episodes, but know this: between us, we’ve earned seven- and eight-figure verdicts in court, and we’ve helped many clients achieve excellent outcomes before even filing a lawsuit.
Our process is thoughtful, proven, and designed to help you understand what to do—and what not to do—if you’re ever injured because of someone else’s negligence.
Tom, can you tell everyone a bit about what’s coming next?
Tom James
Absolutely.
This podcast series is meant to be an educational experience—for our clients and for anyone who might need legal help one day. You’ll learn what to expect, what to do, and how to navigate each stage of the process.
You’ll hear about our backgrounds, our credibility, and the proven process we use—one that’s been battle-tested through 50 years of combined experience.
We’ll dispel common myths about hiring attorneys—like why people think lawyers are so expensive—and explain what really goes on behind the scenes.
We’ll share case studies, big wins, and even some losses—because we learn from those, too.
We’ll also talk about how to know whether you have a case at all. Do you just type it into ChatGPT, or do you call a professional for real advice?
Later episodes will cover the things that can actually kill your case. If you already have a lawyer, you’ll want to listen—because they might not have told you these things.
We’ll talk about what clients can do to improve their chances of winning, the realities of filing lawsuits, and how to work effectively with your attorney.
We’ll host Q&A sessions based on real questions from our website and give you a behind-the-scenes look at how we manage cases at Raitt Law.
We’ll also cover Michigan’s auto insurance reform from 2019—what changed, how it affects you, and what you can do to protect yourself.
And finally, we’ll close the series with an important question: Why choose Raitt Law?
Because we truly believe we’re the best equipped to help you through these difficult times.
Thanks so much, Bobby.
